Government

With the information and option of interactivity available as a result of broadband, people grow to be more aware and have greater opportunity to be involved in national and local governance, expressing their needs more often because it is possible.  Instead of taking a day off work, getting in the car, and heading to the local government council, one can instead transmit and communicate information over the Internet, making it much more likely that he/she will actually try to communicate. E-citizenship speeds up the communication process when, for example, one can petition and be informed of Parliamentary discussions online. Positive feedback is made possible.

Improved efficiency is a benefit of a broadband-made-feasible transformation into E-Government. Service areas that would be improved are trade, economic development, regulation, grants/loans, and asset management.

The size of the government can be cut and costs can be reduced greatly. Smaller staff would be necessary to offer services through the internet. In addition, sharing and integrating information at different levels and locations is made easier for governments; they will not have to deal with the time and cost necessary to produce, distribute or handle forms. Delays in processing can be eliminated, employee satisfaction and retention improved, costs reduced, and the quality of federal government agency administration enhanced.
