On March 5th, 2008, Dr. Imad Hoballah was nominated and elected to represent Arab Administrations in the ASMG Board, acting as a Vice Chairman. The ASMG’s board comprises one Chairman and five Vice Chairman, which mandate is aligned with the
World Radiocommunications Conference cycle (every 4 years).
The Arab Spectrum Management Group (ASMG) was created by the Arab Administrations to manage and coordinate Spectrum Management, World Radiocommunications Conferences issues as well as matters related to the coordination between Arab States in the spectrum management field. The ASMG comprises 22 countries and possesses a market base which can become a heavy weight in deciding World Telecommunication Policies.
Further to his election, Dr. Hoballah stated:
“On behalf of Lebanon and the TRA, I appreciate the confidence of the representatives of the Arab countries with this given responsibility . This is a major step in Lebanon and its TRA’s increased engagement as an active member of the Arab League and the International Community. It should signal the TRA’s active leadership in the liberalization of the Telecom Market and must give investors more confidence in the Lebanese market. We will actively engage the different stakeholders to manage the national spectrum while aggressively contributing to the international standards and for the best of the population.”
