TRA experts at the WTDC-2014 and TRA Chairman exposes the country’s achievements in relation with ICT

ITU's sixth World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) is taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 30 March to 10 April 2014 at the kind invitation of the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Imad Hoballah, TRA Chairman and CEO and Mrs Jinane Karam, TRA spectrum expert attended and participated in this important world conference.

WTDC is an ITU event that takes place every four years. The objective of WTDC-14 is to establish work programmes and guidelines for defining telecommunication development questions and priorities and to provide direction and guidance for the work programme of the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) over the next four-year period. In addition, the issue of “Building confidence and security in the use of ICT” is also high on the agenda. The ITU-D sector will continue to act as catalyst and facilitator in achieving a global culture of cybersecurity. WTDC 14 will adopt an Action Plan and Declaration to guide efforts to accelerate the development of telecommunications and ICT worldwide. It will also adopt a Strategic Plan for ITU–D, which will be integrated into the overall ITU Strategic Plan for the years 2016–2019 at the forthcoming Plenipotentiary Conference, to be held in Busan, Republic of Korea, in October-November 2014.

Dr. Imad Hoballah gave a speech during the High Level Segment event within WTDC-14 where high level representatives from different countries were present. Dr. Hoballah shared the country’s effort to develop the information society during the past four years and highlighted the major achievements done by the Lebanese government in line with Hyderabad Action Plan.
