Dr. Imad Hoballah, TRA Acting chairman and CEO, and
Eng. Said Haidar, TRA Senior Quality of Service Management Expert, represented the TRA –one of the founding members of the Arab Observatory for cyber security- in the Second Regional Arab cyber-security day held in Amman on November 21-23, 2011.
Organized by the Faculty of Law of the University of Jordan and the Arab Observatory for cyber security, in cooperation with the TRA of Lebanon, the conference was held under the theme "Safety and security in cyberspace," and tackled various subjects such as the economic and social repercussions of cyber security, security and privacy challenges and solutions, stakeholders cooperation, and national security issues among
others.
Dr. Imad Hoballah gave a speech under the title “Policies and strategies required to achieve Protection and safety in the Arab cyberspace” at the opening ceremony where he stressed on the importance of facing the modern cyber warfare affecting the commerce, finance, energy, transport, health and communication sectors as well as the national security and emergency. He also pointed out the need of finding common solutions through strengthening and coordinating sustainable expertise, activating regional and international cooperation and building capabilities and competencies.
Dr. Hoballah also chaired and moderated the panel around Regional and International Cooperation to fight Internet dangers.
Moreover, Dr. Imad Hoballah, representing the Arab Observatory, and His Excellency Professor Adel Tweiss, President of the University of Jordan, signed a cooperation agreement aiming at strengthening the collaboration between the two institutions on cybersecurity issues. The Observatory and the University will jointly work on spreading and developing awareness on the importance of having a safe cyber space through their support to the Observatory’s activities and common efforts to integrate cybersecurity in academic institutions’ curricula and Arab universities.
Eng. Said Haidar, TRA Senior Quality of Service Management Expert, also contributed to the event by giving a presentation around “protecting children online” where he presented the TRA vision and actions to protect children in cyberspace. He also stressed on the importance of creating awareness at the level of parents, schools and students as a strategic resolution method for cyber security related problems that children encounter while surfing the Internet. His presentation was part of a panel discussion that addressed cyber warfare, child online protection and Internet safety issues.
A recommendations session was held at the end of the third conference day where Jordan University teachers and students actively participated by expressing their point of view and assisting in drafting the final decisions. At the closing of the conference, Dr. Imad Hoballah and Dr. Mona el Achkar handed on behalf of the Arab Observatory a trophy to the president of the Jordan University as a symbol of appreciation for having hosted the event and for his efforts within the Obeservatory.
This conference attracted an impressive audience composed of government representatives and various experts. It was marked by the presence of by the Minister of State for Legal Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jazi, the President of the legislation Office in the Prime Minister, Dr. Ahmed Zyadat, the Director of Military Justice, the General. Yousef AL-Faouri ,the Vice-President at UJ and a large number of judges, lawyers and the faculty members.
