The TRA submitted the Annual Report 2009 to HE. the Minister of Telecommunications Eng. Charbel Nahhas on March 31st, 2010, and has now released this version online to the public in both English and Arabic .
The 2009 Report highlights the Authority’s progress towards the fulfillment of its mission as mandated by Law 43 and recaps the TRA’s achievements related to the reform and liberalization of the telecommunication market, the establishment of the regulatory framework in Lebanon, and building the institution.
The Authority focused mainly in 2009 on the development and advancement of the telecommunications market through the preparation of the ground work leading to the deployment of broadband services, improving the quality of service, protecting consumers, and hosting the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR), a major annual International Telecommunications Union (ITU) meeting for regulators across the globe.
The TRA strongly believes that telecommunications can become Lebanon’s engine for economic growth, job-creation, and a driver of productivity and competitiveness for Lebanese businesses. In the last two years, the TRA has made the fastest progress in a very short time span through the issuance of the first four regulations, their publication in the Official Gazette and their entering into effect, and is poised to intensively develop mobile and broadband services in 2010.
