The Lebanese Broadband Stakeholders Group held a conference about the Facts and Future of Broadband in Lebanon on Tuesday, January 19
th at Phoenicia Intercontinental Hotel, Beirut where a number of local and international experts shared their views and analysis about the subject. The event was market by the presence and active contribution of Mr. Gareth Lockley and Mr. Carlo Rosotto from the World Bank, Dr. Charbel Nahas, Minister of Telecommunications and Dr. Kamal Shehadi, Chairman of the TRA.
Dr. Shehadi explained in his presentation the Regulatory Requirements for Broadband policy, where he related the building blocks to the development of competition and take up of broadband services in Lebanon. He mentioned that the TRA has proposed a full broadband licensing plan that would ensure competition in backbone high-speed networks, international gateway facilities, and access. He also clearly stated that the empowerment of the TRA and the implementation of Law 431 are the conditions for the transparent and fair development of the telecom market, and to ensure benefits to all broadband stakeholders.
