Calls from Lebanon to the Syrian Arab Republic are now restricted to the international code (00963)
Starting May 21st, 2009, calls from Lebanon to the Syrian Arab Republic will be restricted to the international code (00963), replacing the previous code (02). On the other hand, the international code (00961) will substitute the (06) for any calls from Syria to Lebanon.
This development resulted further to the meeting held mid-April 2009 in Beirut between the Lebanese and Syrian telecommunication ministers and the joint telecommunication commission in Damascus on the 4th and 5th of May, during which an agreement was reached concerning many issues including, besides the adoption of both international codes, the following:
1- International connection cables.
2- Supply of fixed lines services to the town of “Tufail” through the Lebanese Earth Network.
3-Adoption of a joint mechanism for international imbursement between the operators in both countries.
4- Coordination prior to the meeting that will be held by the council of Arab Telecommunication and Information Ministers in Beirut on the 26th and 27th of May 2009.
