TRA participates in a strategic meeting on Internet market regulation
July 09, 2025

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) took part earlier today in a strategic meeting led by the Minister of Telecommunications, HE Charles Hage aiming at regulating and organizing the Internet market in Lebanon. The meeting brought together a number of concerned officials, including the Acting Head and General Director of the TRA, Mr. Amine Moukheiber, representatives of the Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Director General of Investment and Maintenance at the Ministry, Mr. Basil Al-Ayoubi, the Director General of Construction and Equipment at the Ministry, Mr. Naji Andraos, the Director General of Ogero, Mr. Ahmad Oueidat, and the Presidential Advisor for Studies, General Ziad Haikal.

During the discussion, Minister Hage presented the Ministry’s strategic direction to implementing Law 431/2002, through the reactivation of the TRA’s regulatory functions and the establishment of Liban Telecom. The session also covered the implementation of Decree 9458/2022, that ensures a structured framework for Internet access to protect consumers interests, preserve the quality of service, and guarantee fair market practices without increasing internet prices.

Minister Hage emphasized the importance of a coordinated and inclusive approach to regulation that safeguards both consumers rights and the state’s interests, and reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to applying the regulatory and technical standards that ensure accountability, fair competition, and transparency across the sector.

One of the key announcements made during the meeting was the launch of a new digital platform designed for ISPs to enter consumers data. The platform will serve as a tool to enhance transparency with ISPs given one month to complete the data entry process, followed by three months of on-site verification. Providers who fail to comply risk facing legal measures or license jeopardy.

This meeting marks a turning point to restore structure and oversight to the Internet market.
