The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) represented by Mrs. Corine Feghaly, Consumer Affairs Manager, participated in the Annual Conference of Catholic Schools about the beneficial and responsible use of Internet on September 3, 4, 2013, at the Antonine International School in Ajaltoun.

The 2 days conference was marked by the presence and participation of His Eminence and Beatitude Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rai -Patriarch of Antioch and the East, President of the Assembly of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops in Lebanon, high ranked representatives from the Catholic Church, and other experts from the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Education, NGOs, the British Council, and the education sector in Lebanon.

Participants gathered to discuss the following tracks:

1 - How to set up the student profiles on social networks?
2 - What role does the school have to play to pass from the "live without" to "live well with"?
3 - To what extent school life promotes critical thinking, reflexivity and constructive uses for a "mature practice"?

Mrs. Feghaly shared her ideas in a presentation titled: "Tools to protect children and monitor their activities while using the Internet” where she presented the continuous efforts deployed by the TRA to promote Internet security and highlighted the risks facing browsers and more specifically children online today.

Mrs. Feghaly stressed on the importance of creating awareness around this subject and presented the achievements of the TRA in collaboration with the Ministry of Telecommunications in that regard, which resulted in the creation of the dedicated national safety website www.e-aman.com aiming at helping Lebanese citizens bypass Internet risks. This website offers comprehensive tips and exhaustive information to the community including parents, youngsters and teachers. In addition to the website, the TRA adopted various measures to protect children in the cyberspace such as providing parents with monitoring tools to protect their children while surfing the Internet, organizing training sessions for parents and creating awareness through an informative section on the TRA website dedicated to parents
