TRA Senior Technical Operations Management Expert, Dr. Ali Krecht, represented the TRA in Broadband MEA 2012 event that took place in Dubai, 25-27 March, 2012.

The event featured sessions on the latest developments in access technologies, successful monetization of broadband including operator service offerings, opportunities with mobile broadband, strategies and experiences with LTE, regulator initiatives and challenges, national broadband network projects and much more.

Dr. Krecht gave a presentation tilted: "Towards an Efficient ICT Sector Policy to Serve Remote Areas" during the Rural Broadband Summit that took place on March 25. His presentation covered the following topics:

• Government’s role in achieving broadband connectivity for remote areas (policies, funds, taxes, etc.)
• Regulator's role: licensing obligations to cover rural areas, network sharing, competition, etc.
• Technology innovations utilized in fast rural broadband deployment (Mobile broadband, Cloud services as a development enabler for SMEs, etc.)
• Development of local content and applications and promotion of capacity building of ICT users

Dr. Krecht also participated in the Regulatory Round Table that took place on March 27 under the theme: "Driving competition while increasing innovation". During this session, the participants shared their experiences and perspectives on driving innovation while highlighting the regulatory challenges and discussing the measures to be undertaken to achieve sustainable growth.
