'The TRA won’t stop developing a modern regulatory framework' states Mrs. Ajam at SAMENA’s beyond connectivity
May 03, 2011

This year, the TRA was represented by Mrs. Mahassen Ajam at the SAMENA’s Beyond Connectivity annual conference. Held in Abu Dhabi on 25-27 April, the year’s meeting theme focused on “Building towards a digital future.”

Mrs. Ajam highlighted the ICT infrastructure and advanced e-Services benefits to the growth of the National economy and to end users in her opening ceremony speech where she represented Dr. Imad Hoballah, Acting Chairman and CEO of the TRA. She mentioned that the public and private sectors should be involved in driving the changes and transformations in ICT infrastructure and e-Services, not only to reduce the huge CapEx and OpEx, but also to meet the market demand for more and more converged services. She also stated that ensuring convergence requires a radical shift in thinking where Private and Public Partnership (PPP) represents a durable solution for strengthening ICT infrastructure and generating economic growth. She finally emphasized on the crucial role of the Lebanese TRA within this context and delved into the main regulations issued by the Authority while revealing their importance on the telecom sector.

Mrs. Ajam also participated in the “Evolution of the technology and Next Generation Networks” panel discussion on day 2, where topics such as the economic case for telcos to invest in LTE, the ways to transform their architecture to accommodate the ever more demanding consumer, the actors to drive national broadband networks (NBN) and the mechanisms behind Public private partnership (PPP) for NBN deployment were tackled.
