Dr. Imad Hoballah, TRA acting Chairman and CEO, delivered a speech today, Wednesday March 23, 2011, during the opening ceremony of the Arab net conference that took place at the Habtoor Grand Hotel in Beirut.
Dr. Hoballah began his speech by stressing on the need of developing the telecommunications sector in Lebanon and finding a solution to the regression of the electronic services, the infrastructure and the current capacities. He also urged to take immediate action to catch up with knowledge, content and telecommunications technologies advancements as well as the electronic services advancement . Dr. Hoballah also stressed on the importance of the telecommunications and information technology revolution and its positive impact on the life of the community and the individuals, and emphasized the need of Lebanon for e-services while explaining the role of the Authority and the Telecommunications Law in that regard and the reasons behind the deterioration of the current situation. Dr. Hoballah also shed the light on the positive aspects that we could build up on to move forward in the restoration and development of the sector and pointed out the opportunities in the foreseeable future. He concluded his presentation by stating and giving a strategic and systematic explanation of the factors and means of reform and liberalization of the telecommunications sector.
Held under the patronage of the Lebanese President H.E Michel Sleiman in cooperation with the Bank of Lebanon, Arabnet brought together prominent Arab businessmen, investors, decision-makers (CEOs, MDs, Partners) and interested parties who wish to establish new businesses, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations and the media, to discuss the latest trends and technologies in the sector.
The conference will focus on the developments related to communication networks and social networking, as well as the innovations in the field of mobile Internet through smart phones and devices.
