The TRA locates a missing meteorology buoy in Northern Lebanon
October 04, 2010

The TRA located a missing buoy on Friday, October 1st, 2010 after having received a request for a technical assistance from the Meteorology department at the General directorate of the Civil Aviation. This buoy containing sensitive electronic devices has the function of constantly updating the observational meteorological department at the General Directorate of the Civil Aviation with important meteorology data. It was lost since December 2009 further to a storm.

Experts at the Civil Aviation had some evidence that the buoy that continued transmitting signals was stuck on the coastal front of the Lebanese territories. The TRA spectrum monitoring team was able to locate this marine float in the coastal area of El Sheikh Zinad, near Kleyaat airport shortly after having started its mission on Friday, October 1st and further to a thorough measurement done in the northern Syrian border using specialized equipment that detects the source of transmission.

This buoy will be shortly transferred to Beirut after having been inspected by representatives of the Meteorology department at the Civil Aviation.
