The TRA calls for the immediate respect and implementation of Telecom Law enabling the Authority to accomplish its prerogatives
January 26, 2010

The TRA Board Members visited Lebanese officials and decision makers to explain the TRA’s role and actions for the development of the regulatory framework, for securing international financial support and building the institution. These visits took place within the Authority’s efforts to communicate about the Authority’s mission to regulate and liberalize the telecommunications sector in Lebanon, and to develop and provide the best services at the best prices to a wide range of citizens. Board Members also stressed on the difficulties and challenges the Authority has been facing since its launch three years ago.

The Board visited during the last two days the Minister of State for Administrative Reform, Mr. Mohammad Fneish, the Head of the Loyalty and Resistance bloc, MP. Mohammed Raad and the Lebanese Forces’ leader Dr. Samir Geagea, to inform them of the latest developments in the telecommunications sector, and the obstacles hindering TRA’s work and the institution’s building process, thus, having a negative impact on Lebanon being unable to liberalize the telecommunications sector as announced in the ministerial statement.

In this context, the Board will be meeting with other concerned officials in the upcoming days and will highlight the importance of the needed administrative and financial support to the Authority through the application of Telecom Law 431/2002 that will ensure the development of the Lebanese telecommunications market, stimulate competition between the operators in the field and guarantee benefits to all citizens, partners and stakeholders in this sector.
