Dr. Kamal Shehadi, Chairman and CEO of the TRA, participated as a keynote speaker in the Expert Group Meeting on Developing the ICT Sector in the ESCWA Region, held at the UN house on 11th and 12th of March 2009.

Gathering national and regional telecom and financial experts as well as various industry stakeholders, this Expert Group Meeting was organized by UN - ESCWA to highlight the obstacles facing the development of a self-reliant and sustainable ICT sector in the ESCWA region and to propose solutions to overcome them in order to build a flourishing regional ICT sector.

The conference was marked by the presence of government representatives in charge of telecom policy, strategy development and implementation.

The main outcome of the meeting was a set of recommendations and a preliminary plan of action that are geared towards the development of a viable and sustainable ICT sector in the region.
