Further to a complaint letter received from the DSPs and ISPs concerning the current ADSL market problems, Dr. Kamal Shehadi and TRA Board members met a delegation of Data & Internet service providers representatives to discuss the issues related to the liberalization of broadband services and the problems of the ADSL market.
During this meeting, participants focused on the TRA’s plans for the liberalization of the sector, as well as the obstacles to the development of ADSL.
The TRA suggested several measures that can be undertaken to address the ADSL problems. Dr. Shehadi explained the importance of

separating the wholesale service provisioning for retail service provisioning within MoT and Ogero. He also stressed the necessity of expanding the international bandwidth capacity for Internet services and distributing it in a fair and transparent manner. Finally, he proposed a series of measures to make the DSL market more transparent to consumers and Service Providers, including the definition of the structure and existing fees.
