The
New Arab Woman Forum (NAWF), will take place on February 1-2, 2012 at the Four Seasons Hotel Beirut, Lebanon
Under the main theme of
“The New Arab World: Civil Liberties and Reform”, this year’s forum will take full account of the historic dimensions of the ongoing ferment and revolution in the region as it continues to follow up, analyze and discuss leading political and social issues of the hour. Its topics and interests will thus range from the nature and scope of political and social reforms that will eventually emerge from the Arab revolutions, and whether they will lead to more effective political participation for women, to the role and limitations of social media in political and social activism, to the relevance of Arab artistic expression for the new era of democracy and personal freedoms, to many other relevant issues and topics.
NAWF is organized by Al Iktissad Wal Aamal Group and Al Hasnaa Magazine, For the fifth successive year, NAWF will bring together speakers and participants from both genders from the Arab world and internationally, including government ministers and public officials, business leaders, social scientists, writers and journalists, artists and actresses, heads of NGOs and other social institutions, and other personalities and activists.
Main topics of the 2012 forum include:
- What political and social reforms will result from the Arab revolutions and will they favor more effective political participation for women?
- The rising importance of social media as instruments of change in the Arab world and their potential use by Arab women to advance their causes.
- A Western Outlook on the Post- Revolutions Arab World.
- What will be the role of the young in bringing about future reforms?
- Artistic expression in the post-revolution Arab world: How will it change, will the voice of women be more prominent, and will it be threatened by a trend towards conservatism?
