The TRA (Telecommunications Regulatory Authority) of the United Arab Emirates, the World Economic Forum, INSEAD and Booz & Company are organizing the Middle East ICT Leaders Event, a gathering for the region’s ICT industry shapers and leaders.

The event will take place at the Yas Hotel, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, UAE on Wednesday, 12 October, 2011, from 10:00 AM till 5:00 PM. The event will provide a forum in which ICT leaders can share their experiences and challenges, as well as outline their vision for developing the sector and building knowledge economies. Furthermore, the roundtable format of the discussion will provide a networking opportunity among the very select group of senior attendees from key areas of the ICT ecosystem: policymakers, regulatory authorities, development authorities, telecom operators, investment authorities, industry experts and academics.

The theme of the event will address today’s most salient topic for the industry: “Building the Digital Middle East: Policy, Regulation and Governance Imperatives.” The event will start with a short presentation on the state of the industry and key findings from the “Global Information Technology Report 2010–2011” followed by moderated discussions among participants. The discussion will be structured to draw on leaders’ experiences and will seek to distill the key lessons learned on the most pressing issues facing the region’s ICT industry today: digitization policies, next-generation regulation, sector governance, cross-border collaboration, the measurement of technology’s impact and government involvement.
