Arab Infrastructure Regulatory Forum Working Group meeting
March 21 - 22, 2011  
Location: Bristol Hotel, Beirut, Lebanon

In preparation for the establishment of the Arab Infrastructure Regulatory Forum, the working group of this forum will be having a meeting hosted by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Lebanon on January 30 and 31, 2011 in Beirut.

The purpose of this meeting is to finalize the Arab Infrastructure Regulatory Forum’s constitution Arabic and English versions as well as the Forum’s declaration paper.

The meeting will be attended by two representatives from the World Bank, Mr. Laszlo Lovei, Director for Sustainable Development in the MENA region, and Dr. Katharina Gassner Senior Economist, Sustainable Development Network.

Mr. Laszlo will address all questions regarding the larger picture of the infrastructure agenda in the region and how best the Arab Infrastructure Regulatory Forum can be positioned to contribute in the most effective manner and receive the support and recognition it deserves.

The Arab Infrastructure Regulatory Forum will be actively working to:
  1. Improve Arab Infrastructure regulation in member countries (including enhancing regulatory methods and practices);
  2. Foster development of stable Infrastructure Regulators with autonomy and authority; and improve cooperation among Infrastructure Regulators;
  3. Improve public, and policy-maker, awareness and understanding of Infrastructure regulation and its role in addressing a wide spectrum of socioeconomic, environmental and market issues.
