2010 session of Council
April 13 - 22, 2010

Location: Geneva

The role of ITU Council is to consider, in the interval between Plenipotentiary Conferences, broad telecommunication policy issues to ensure that the Union's activities, policies and strategies fully respond to today's dynamic, rapidly changing telecommunications environment. It also prepares a report on the policy and strategic planning of the ITU.

The Council is also responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the Union, coordinating work programs, approving budgets and controlling finances and expenditure.

Finally, the Council takes all steps to facilitate the implementation of the provisions of the ITU Constitution, the ITU Convention, the Administrative Regulations (International Telecommunications Regulations and Radio Regulations), the decisions of Plenipotentiary Conferences and, where appropriate, the decisions of other conferences and meetings of the Union.

ITU-D Sector Members nominated to attend the 2010 session of Council as observers are:

  • Asociación Iberoamericana de Centros de Investigación y Empresas de Telecomunicaciones (Spain)
  • GSM Association (United Kingdom)
  • Saudi Telecom (Saudi Arabia).
