On Thursday, 21 May, the TRA held a stakeholder workshop to discuss its consultation document,
"Spectrum Refarming: Broadband Context and Framework." The workshop took place at the TRA headquarters in the Ministry of Telecommunications building in downtown Beirut, in the presence of TRA Board Members and the TRA team. It brought together Data Service Providers, Internet Service Providers, mobile network operators, and other stakeholders concerned with the use of spectrum.
Dr. Jenny Gemayel, TRA Chairwoman and CEO, opened the workshop by highlighting the importance of open dialogue on the management of spectrum as a strategic national resource. She emphasized that the consultation document is not a final decision, but a starting point for discussion, allowing stakeholders to share their views, questions, and concerns before any further steps are taken.
Eng. Mohamad Ayoub, TRA Board Member and Head of the Telecommunications Technologies Unit, presented the main elements of the spectrum refarming plan. The presentation covered options to make a more efficient use of available spectrum, support the expansion of broadband services, organize existing uses within a clearer framework, and help prepare the sector for new technologies.
The workshop ended with an open discussion and Q&A session, during which stakeholders shared their technical, regulatory, and operational comments and concerns.
The TRA confirmed that all feedback received will be carefully reviewed and taken into consideration before any final regulation is issued.
