In light of the recent warning issued by the
Lebanese Army regarding suspicious QR codes appearing on leaflets distributed in Beirut, the
Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) calls on the public to exercise increased vigilance and avoid scanning QR codes originating from unknown sources, as they may redirect users to untrusted external communication platforms and expose them to security risks such as unauthorized access to mobile devices and personal data.
As part of its mandate to protect consumers, safeguard children online, and promote the digital safety of all citizens, the TRA encourages users to follow basic digital safety practices:
- Avoid scanning QR codes from unknown or unverified sources
- Verify the origin of QR codes before scanning them
- Check the link preview before opening it
- Avoid entering personal or sensitive information on unfamiliar websites
Promoting digital awareness and online safety remains a core priority of the Authority.
