Consumer reports

The Consumer Reports section provides a useful snapshot of consumer behavior. All consumer reports are backed by research, consultancies and studies undertaken by TRA experts and international consultants.

The Information Database Development (IDD) is a national study undertaken by the TRA of the current telecommunications market structure, challenges and drivers. The research covers the three main categories of landline, mobile, and Internet and data. Its purpose is to shed light on the major issues regarding penetration, usage and non-usage habits, satisfaction or dissatisfaction, as well as the needs and improvements required.

Conducted by an independent market research firm on our behalf, it includes a thorough field survey of residential and corporate consumers as well as in-depth interviews with operational service providers. The IDD study is sponsored by America-Mideast Educational & Training Services (AMIDEAST), with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It is part of AMIDEAST’s Transparency and Accountability Grants (TAG) project in Lebanon offering grants to organizations to conduct diverse impact oriented programs that increase transparency, accountability and good governance.

Residential survey:
A residential survey took place in Q1 2008 involving around 1,300 face-to-face interviews. Multi-stage random sampling was used incorporating population representative quotas for age, gender and socio-economic classes. The survey covered the regions of Beirut, Mount Lebanon, North, South and Nabatieh, and Bekaa.

Corporate survey:
A corporate survey was conducted during Q1-Q2 2008 involving around 300 face-to-face interviews across Lebanon. Interviews were mainly conducted in the sectors of business/commercial/financial services and trade and tourism. Quotas per sector were pre-defined according to telecom usage.
Analysis takes into account the region, company size and business sector.

Service provider interviews:
Interviews were conducted with all operational service providers - landline, mobile, internet and data service providers - in the telecommunications market. Providers were asked to discuss a broad range of business topics including their short and long term objectives, service offerings, the impact of regulation, relations between providers, and current and future technical issues.
