2009 GILF/GSR hosted in Lebanon
August 08, 2009

The Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR) is an annual ITU event organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) bringing together heads of national regulatory authorities from both developed and developing countries. This conference has earned a reputation as the global venue for regulators to share their views and experiences as part of the worldwide community of regulators. The meeting fosters an open dialogue between regulators and key ICT stakeholders: the private sector, investors and consumers.

The Global Industry Leaders Forum (GILF) program has been designed to complement and reinforce the GSR and aims at facilitating the dialogue between industry and policy makers and regulators on pertinent issues that currently prevent or slower down ICT and telecommunication investment in developing and least developed countries. The format favors interactive debates and panel discussions rather than formal presentations.

Jointly organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), this year’s Symposium will be hosted in Lebanon at the Habtoor Grand Hotel Convention Center on 10-12 November 2009.

Held under the theme : “Hands-on or Hands-off? Stimulating growth through effective ICT regulation“, the forthcoming GSR/GILF 2009 edition will address the challenges of convergence and the changing role of the regulator. The meeting will address key issues such as the challenges for regulators in a converged world, the impact of the financial crisis on Telecom regulation, universal access policies, gap reduction between developed and developing countries, new licensing approaches…
