The 2008 TRA Annual Report is now released
August 06, 2009

The 2008 TRA Annual Report is now released highlighting the Authority’s progress towards the reform and liberalization of telecommunications.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has worked tirelessly the last two years to prepare the liberalization of telecommunications, implementing Law 431/2002, and developing its ability to regulate the sector. Despite the political and economic conditions prevailing in the country as well as the delay in establishing Liban Telecom, the Authority was able to make important progress towards the reform and liberalization of telecommunications, to promote consumer protection and to issue key regulations, policies, and decisions, with all regulations going to the Council of State for review before publishing.

Our objective for 2009 is to liberalize the market for key telecommunications services, namely mobile, broadband, and international. Most notably, we plan to issue new licenses to Internet and Data Service Providers as well as new National Broadband Carrier licenses and a license for “Liban Telecom” as soon as it is established. The Authority looks forward to finalizing the remaining regulations and capacity-building measures to empower it to better fulfill its mandate.
