The TRA National Numbering Plan sees the light 10 years after its issuance
December 28, 2020

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority issued the National Numbering Draft Plan on May 20, 2010, which assigned the code (2) to the fixed network. Based on this plan and other decisions and documents, the Minister of Telecommunications H.E. Eng. Talal Hawat issued on December 10, 2020 Decision No. 1/666 "Numbering for Subscribers on the IMS Network". This decision came within the framework of the implementation of the FTTx and LTE project, which requires the progressive transfer of subscribers from old exchanges to the IMS network, and the gradual replacement of the code (0) with the code (2) for fixed network subscribers.

This decision comes ten years after the issuance of the National Draft Numbering Plan by the TRA, which is based on the Telecommunications Law 431/2002 (Article 5.1.f and Article 31.1). Law 431 specifies that the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority is responsible for establishing and managing the National Numbering Plan (NNP) for subscribers and Service Providers of telecommunication services. This decision also comes within the framework of the introduction of wider services in the telecommunications sector especially in meeting the urgent need for new numbers in the mobile sector, and the implementation of the FTTx and LTE project mentioned in the Minister’s Decision.
