Mrs. Carole Hage, Tariffs Manager in the Market and Competition Unit at the TRA, represented the Authority at the World Mobile Congress that was held on February 27-March 2, 2023, in Barcelona.

The presence of telecommunication regulators at the congress was remarkable as over 100 regulatory authorities were present at the GSMA Ministerial Program. The theme of the event, Velocity (Unleashing Tomorrow’s Technology) as well as digital inclusion challenges, were the target of most of the officials’ and international organizations’ discussions. In fact, despite the fast progress of technology, 3.2 billion people worldwide are still not benefitting from the advantages associated with accessing digital services. The barriers related to connectivity, mobile device prices, energy, cybersecurity and more topics were raised throughout the sessions. Discussions evolved around finding solutions to close the usage gap allowing individuals to access critical digital information and services such as healthcare, education, e-commerce, financial services, and income-generating opportunities.

Mrs. Hage also took the opportunity to congratulate Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin for taking office at ITU this year.
