The
International Telecommunication Union Plenipotentiary Conference (PP) is the top policy making body of the
ITU. Held every four years, it sets the policy, financial planning and strategic goals of the Union.
PP-14 is taking place in Busan, Republic of Korea, from 20 October - 7 November, 2014.
The Plenipotentiary represents the key opportunity for Member States of the ITU to decide on, and influence, its future strategic direction, with implications for future information and communications technology (ICT) policies throughout the world.
As per CoM’s decision, Lebanon is participating in the conference. The Lebanese delegation is headed by
H.E. Boutros Harb, Minister of Telecom.
Dr. Imad Hoballah, TRA Chairman and CEO,
Eng. Naji Andraos MoT Director General, and several advisors to the Minister are among the delegates.
PP-14 will elect the Union’s Secretary General, the top executives for each section (ITU – D, ITU R and TSB), as well as the 12 members of the Radio Regulations Board and the 48 Member States to serve on the ITU Council over the next four years of which Lebanon is a candidate.
During the conference, Plenary and Committees are formed to cover the work of all the sessions. Dr. Hoballah will be chairing committee 4, whose role is to issue the final documents of the conference in the 6 languages adopted by ITU.
