Responsible Citizen in Cyberspace project officially revealed at MoT
April 16, 2013

The Ministry of Telecommunications (MOT) and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) hosted the "Responsible Citizen in Cyberspace" event on April 15, 2013 at the MOT premises.

This event aimed at celebrating the kick-off of the "Responsible Citizen in Cyberspace" three-fold project and officially launching the national website www.e-aman.com. This website will help increase awareness about the risks of interacting in the cyber space. It provides exhaustive information, comprehensive tips, tools, methodologies and best practices for the community including parents, youngsters and teachers to help them avoid facing Internet risks.

The event was marked by the presence and participation of HE. Nicolas Sehnaoui, MoT Minister, and Dr. Imad Hoballah, TRA Chairman and CEO. It was also attended by representatives from the CRDP at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, from ISPs, DSPs, mobile operators and IT vendors, several NGOs concerned with safer Internet and children online protection and the media.

Mrs. Corine Feghaly, Consumer Affairs and Public Consultation manager at the TRA and coordinator of the Responsible citizen in cyberspace between the MoT and the TRA, presented the efforts deployed by the TRA in terms of children online protection and the responsible citizens in cyberspace three fold project in collaboration with the MoT.

Eng. Manal Shihab, Senior Software expert at the TRA, presented the www.e-aman.com website.

Dr. Imad Hoballah described the TRA efforts and achievements in terms of child online protection and cyber security. He also focused on the importance of the partnership between the public and private sector for a successful consumer protection campaign and highlighted several actions that can be undertaken by the public to help protect children online.

HE. Nicolas Sehnaoui declared that children rights are an integral part of consumer rights and finding solutions to protect them in cyberspace should be everyone’s concern. HE. Sehnaoui announced that the internet has become a very important tool in our daily life. The website www.e-aman.com is a major solution to spread awareness around children protection without banning the internet.

Both HE. Sehnaoui and Dr. Hoballah handed Born Interactive a certificate in recognition of the pro bono work done to develop the website www.e-aman.com in English.
