The establishment of the
Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has begun with the appointment of the Board of Commissioners in February 2007. The TRA is a significant milestone signaling the start of the liberalization and restructuring of the Lebanese telecommunications sector, a process which will, I am confident, stimulate a dynamic expansion of telecommunications, creating many new jobs, attracting new service providers to invest in telecommunications, and contributing directly to the growth and competitiveness of the Lebanese economy.
The TRA's strategy and actions will be guided by its mission statement: To establish a regulatory environment that enables a competitive telecommunications market to deliver state-of-the-art services at affordable prices to the broadest spectrum of the Lebanese population.
The TRA will use this website to provide information to the public and statekholders on telecommunications regulations, telecommunications market, service providers, and the TRA activities. It will rely on this website to consult the public and stakeholders on matters related to telecommunications policy, regulations, and key decisions. The website will also provide a space for the exchange of ideas and information on services and service providers. It is also the TRA's intention to use this website as a platform to serve the public, users of telecommunications services, and service providers. The TRA welcomes any comments on this website, which is designed to make TRA activities transparent and accessible to the widest possible public.
The TRA is committed to working with Lebanese citizens, civil society, private institutions, and all friends of Lebanon to develop appropriate telecommunications regulations which benefit all users and maintain a vibrant, best-in-class telecommunications industry.
Yours,
Kamal S. Shehadi, PhD
